If your name has changed, you’ll need to apply in person at a driver licensing location and provide a certified legal document proving the name change.
Active military personnel and their dependents may use two documents proving their out-of-state residential address or APO/FPO address (if stationed overseas). Documents must show your name and be less than one year old. You’ll need to upload or mail two documents to prove your residential/physical address (cannot be handwritten documents).No digital, electronic, or stamped signatures allowed on the application. You can also print and complete your application before going to the exam station. Use our scheduling tool to make an appointment! We would encourage you to schedule an appointment so you don't have to sit in the waiting area. If you prefer to replace your driver license in-person at an exam station, we assure you walk-in customers are wecome. If you recently requested a replacement or duplicate licnese, you may email us or call (605) 773-6883 to check the status of your request. Online and mail-in requests can be made once every 10 years. If you’ve lost your license, you may be eligible to apply for a replacement online, by mail, or by visiting any South Dakota driver exam station.
